about

Fallen Astronaut is a synth-based project by Vlad Shusterman, who back in the 2010’s released several critically acclaimed post-rock / electronica albums as Ghost Bike. Started during the 2020 lockdowns as a tribute to the naive Soviet electronic music Vlad loved as a child, Fallen Astronaut quickly grew into a thematic vehicle for his lifelong obsession with space exploration, driven by unabashed worship of both Tangerine Dream and Autechre.

Made in his home studio using classic drum machine samples and freeware virtual analog synths only, the self-released 2021 debut 'FA-1: Gravity Hurts' was described by Selections Of Electronic Music as “dense, enigmatic, melancholic space heroism; retro synth music full of majesty and nostalgia”. 'FA-2: A Labyrinth Made Of Labyrinths', inspired by the wonder and awe of deep sky objects and areas, followed in 2023. UK publications Illustrate and Plastic Mag praised it as a "sonic wonder" and "an extraordinary achievement".

Vlad was born in Ukraine and lives in West Jerusalem, Israel. He is also a half of the well-known neofolk / art metal duo Cruel Wonders and releases funeral doom-tinged ethereal darkwave as Sleep’s Sister.

"The Universe is a labyrinth made of labyrinths. Each leads to another. And wherever we cannot go ourselves, we reach with mathematics. Out of mathematics we build wagons to carry us into the nonhuman realms of the world.” - Stanislaw Lem
